The Future of Comprehensive Oral Implantology

They say emotionally losing a tooth is like losing a loved one or a real close friend. To realize that emotional component to what we do is very important.

Jacksonville University has a philosophy of ‘dare to be bold.’ Our residents will be leaders in the field of reconstructive oral surgery and will change millions of lives around the world.

It changes lives certainly, mentally, because it gives them self-esteem back.

“You’re looking at the patient changing colors and getting better and responding you may be having to run a emergency watching the sets go up…”

We are training our residents to become reconstructive surgeons of the entire oral masticatory process.

All below the nose, all the bone that supports the teeth, we're going to rebuild bone, we're going to rebuild soft tissue, and place the teeth, we're going to have implants and restorative dentistry.

When people lose their teeth they can use removable appliances if they still have some, but they're not very satisfactory. Implants can be placed in the bone, bone grows alongside of them, and the cosmetics we can do today are just amazing.

There is a tremendous number of people that are not able to socialize properly because they're missing multiple teeth. Being able to help someone restore their teeth allows them to become more sociable and be able to function in society like the rest of us do.

I've been in private practice dentistry for 22 years, and I've pretty much done everything that I can do. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to grow my skills and to move into a specialty where I feel that I can give my knowledge and my experience to and be able to offer more to my patients.

Jacksonville University has the largest orthodontic program in the United States, and Jacksonville University will now have the first comprehensive oral implantology residency program that is also the largest residency program in oral implantology in the United State.

And, in the next 50 years, we're going to positively affect millions of people with a better quality of dental care, fewer complications, hopefully less expense, so what are we going to do? That’s what we're going to do.
